Undocumented Pinoys have only until June 24 to register for Saudi amnesty –consul

Undocumented Filipinos in Saudi Arabia who want to avail of the amnesty offered by the Saudi Arabian government have only until June 24 to register, according to the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah.
Consul RJ Sumague said those who have yet to register must not wait for the last days of the amnesty program as there might not be enough time to endorse them to the deportation center.
"Time is running out," he said. "Those who want to avail of the amnesty must register now in order to have enough time to schedule them for processing of their exit visa at the deportation center in Shumaysi."
Sumague said of the 6,300 who registered to the Consulate, 5,500 were endorsed to the deportation center since the start of the amnesty program in late March.
The Consulate has been assisting those who are availing the amnesty by endorsing them to the deportation center by batches to speed up the processing of their exit visas.
Sumague said 3, 573 exit visas were issued while 2,120 undocumented Filipinos left the Kingdom using the government sponsored air-tickets. Last Monday, during the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day, 177 mostly women and children, left Jeddah via a Philippine Airlines flight.
Majority of those who availed of the amnesty had been illegally staying in Saudi Arabia for more than five years, Sumague said. —Ronaldo Concha/KBK, GMA News

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
