MANILA
– No Filipinos were affected in the powerful earthquake that hit East Lombok in
Indonesia on July 29, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.
The
Philippine Embassy in Jakarta checked the condition of some 250 Filipinos in
Lombok and surrounding areas and reported that none of them were among the
casualties, the DFA said in a statement.
The
Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that as of July 30,
there are 14 fatalities and more than 1,000 houses damaged by the magnitude 6.4
earthquake. A Malaysian citizen was among the fatalities.
The
embassy also extended its condolences to the families of those who perished in
the earthquake, the DFA said.
Local
authorities are assisting the victims, said Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia
Cesar Lee Hiong Wee. The Lombok International Airport is operating as
scheduled, he said.
