DFA checking on Filipinos in Saudi following missile attack
MANILA- The Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday it was checking if there were any Filipinos hurt in the missile attack in the southern city of Najran in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia's air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by Yemen's Houthis in Najran Wednesday, which left 26 people wounded with shrapnel, Saudi's civil defense said.
Debris from the missile fell on a residential area, said Philippine Consul General Edgar Badajos.
The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah is checking whether any of the 7,850 Filipinos in Najran were wounded in the incident, the DFA said.
The Iran-aligned Houthi militants, who control Yemen's capital Sanaa and most of the west of the country, regularly fire missiles on southern Saudi Arabia and occasionally aim for higher-value targets, such as the capital Riyadh or facilities of state oil company Aramco.
Most of the missiles have been intercepted by the Saudi military. At least 112 civilians have been killed in such attacks since 2015, according to the coalition.
