Pinoy mechanic pinned to death in Saudi
The Laverinto family wants nothing more than to have the remains of their breadwinner flown back to his hometown from Saudi Arabia.
“Nananawagan po ako pay Pangulong Gloria (Arroyo) na maiuwi yung bangkay ng asawa ko,” appealed Janneth Laverinto.
Mrs. Laverinto’s husband Elvis was pinned to death under a vehicle he was overhauling. The jack was allegedly detached causing the entire weight of the vehicle to crash down on the victim.
The 41-year-old victim of Barangay Villapaz, Naguillan, Isabela used to be a chief mechanic at Cauayan City.
Elvis wanted to give his family a better life. On June 18, 2007 he left his hometown to try his luck as a mechanic in a small shop in Saudi Arabia.
However, on November 15, 2008, his wife and three children received the sad news about his untimely passing.
The Leverinto family approached the migrant desk at the provincial government and even the Department of Foreign Affairs in Tuguegarao but only they only confirmed his death.
Elvis was not yet able to invest for his family since working for Saudi Arabia. They still have debts to pay and his wife is now worrying about their family’s future. Report from Harris Julio, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
