MANILA, Philippines - The relatives of two of the four Filipino nurses who died in a car crash in Saudi Arabia last January tried to fight back tears after their loved ones’ returned to Manila in wooden boxes.

The bodies of Rosely Laceda and Cecille Detorio arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, more than two months after their untimely demise.

In a GMA News report, the relatives said they will return to their provinces on Wednesday.

Laceda’s remains would be flown to Marinduque in the central Philippines, while Detorio’s would be flown to General Santos City in Mindanao.

On Jan. 16, the two nurses along with Nancy Brion and Gemma Teodora died after their service van collided with another speeding vehicle in Taif, a mountain city in western Saudi Arabia.

Reports said the service van lost control when one of its tires exploded.

The four were working in a private dental clinic in Al Baha, another mountain city four hours ride away from the holy city of Makkah (Mecca).

The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah said it has requested the victims’ employer to secure the police report of the Filipino casualties and find out if someone is liable in the incident.
