RP consulate in Dubai open for OFW's registration for 2010 polls

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai on Sunday encouraged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to register as overseas absentee voters (OAVs) for the 2010 national election.

Online news site Khaleej Times reported that Philippine Consul General Benito Valeriano said the registration started Feb. 17 and would end Aug. 31.

Valeriano said eligible voters would have to bring with them a copy of their passports when registering at the Philippine Consulate.

He said those qualified to register as overseas absentee voters are Filipinos residing in the UAE who are not disqualified by law and are at least 18 years at the time of the May 10, 2010.

Positions the OAVs can vote for include president, vice president, senators and party-list representatives.
