More than a thousand Filipino Muslim nurses are needed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said Saudi Arabian officials need 1,600 female Muslim nurses. They are also willing to hire even those who have not taken the nursing board exams yet.

"For Muslim applicants, they are even willing to consider the application even of the non-board passers pa, which is of course not the same sa mga non-Muslim applicants," said POEA Administrator Jennifer Manalili.

Muslim nursing student Nasheeb Sarip also wants to work in Saudi Arabia when he graduates even if male nurses are not in demand in the Kingdom. Aside from Saudi Arabia, he is also eyeing to work in other nursing positions in Middle Eastern countries.

“Hindi na po ako mahihirapan kapag sa Saudi po kasi nga Muslim po ako,” Sarip said.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said nurses employed in Saudi Arabia can earn as much as P50,000 a month. The Kingdom is also hiring respiratory therapist and x-ray technicians.

The POEA encourages applicants to call its hotline at 722-1144 or 722 1155 or log on to www.poea.gov.ph or www.eregister.poea.gov.ph. Report from Nina Corpuz, ABS-CBN News
