RP officials in Chile conduct OAV registration for seafarers
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine officials in Chile have started a "Registration All Aboard" campaign to encourage the participation of Filipino seafarers there in the 2010 elections.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Philippine Ambassador to Santiago Ma. Consuelo Puyat-Reyes launched the Embassy’s “Registration All Aboard" campaign last March 12.
"The Embassy has started conducting registration on board ships with Filipino seafarers as it intensifies efforts to contribute to the Department’s target of one million OAV voters for the 2010 national elections," the DFA said on its website (www.dfa.gov.ph).
It started the registration campaign with the M/V Ned Lloyd Marita, docked at the San Antonio pier located 115 kilometers from Santiago.
An Embassy Overseas Absentee Voter (OAV) team conducted voters registration on board the ship, whose Filipino captain, Roden Pineda, led 22 Filipino seafarers in registering as voters.
"The deputy chief of police of the San Antonio Police Department, Edilio Gacitua, will continue to inform the Embassy of container/passenger ships arriving with Filipino seafarers as well as to help arrange the Embassy’s visit to said ships," the DFA said. - GMANews.TV
