Kuwaiti foreign minister vows justice for OFW Jullebee Ranara

Kuwait Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has vowed that the perpetrator in killing of Filipina household worker Jullebee Ranara will be punished for the crime. advertisement Based on a statement of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, Sheikh Salem met with Philippine Chargé d'Affaires Jose Cabrera on Sunday to condemn the killing of Ranara, whose burned body was found in the desert. "He (Sheikh Salem) condemned her murder and said that the perpetrator, who has been arrested and is currently in detention, will be punished for this heinous crime," the statement read. The foreign minister asked Cabrera to convey his condolences to the family and the Philippine government for the death of Ranara. The official also explained that the actions of the suspect do not reflect the character and values of Kuwaiti society, the Kuwaiti people, and the Kuwaiti government. The slain 35-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was reportedly raped and impregnated by the suspect, the 17-year-old son of her employer. Cabrera, on his part, expressed appreciation for the Kuwaiti authorities’ cooperation and assistance, particularly for their swift action in the apprehension of the suspect and in the clearances for the shipment of Ranara’s remains. Her remains were brought back to Manila on Friday night. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to perform an autopsy as requested by her family. Sheikh Salem said the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide the Philippine Embassy all necessary assistance for the monitoring of Ranara’s case. Currently, there is no deployment ban to Kuwait following Ranara's death. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has, however, issued an order for the preventive suspension of the employer of the slain OFW.—Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA Integrated News
