Three Filipinas killed in Dubai road accident

MANILA, Philippines - Three Filipino women were among five fatalities who figured in a road accident in Dubai, United Arab Emirates Sunday, online news site Arab News reported Monday.

An Indian national and a bus driver were also killed when their minibus crashed into a road barrier and landed on top of another car on the opposite side of the road in Dubai.

Four others were seriously injured in the incident that took place early Sunday morning, the report said.

Initial police reports indicated the Egyptian bus driver, who was not immediately named, lost control of the bus. The report did not identify other casualties in the incident.

The bus, which was coming down Sheikh Rashid Road from Al-Garhoud Bridge heading for Bur Dubai, swerved toward the left lane and hit a road barrier and a lamppost.

The impact caused the bus to fly on to the opposite side of the road and land on top of a saloon.

Acting chief of Dubai police Maj. Gen Khamis Mattar Al-Mazeina said the accident disrupted traffic and motorists were stuck for hours.

He described the loss of life on Dubai's roads as "senseless," pointing out that in the past two days nine people were killed in road accidents.

Four people were killed in Dubai on Friday in different accidents that occurred within a span of seven hours, the report said. - GMANews.TV
