Pinay deployed by Mary Jane’s alleged recruiter in HK jail for drug smuggling
A woman said to be a victim of Mary Jane Veloso's alleged recruiter is among some 30 Filipinos currently in jail in Hong Kong for drug smuggling, a TV report said Monday.
A report on GMA News TV's News To Go said the Filipina pointed out that her recruiter was also Maria Kristina Sergio, who is blamed for Veloso's ordeal in Indonesia.
The Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong, however, refused to provide more details because of an ongoing investigation Sergio is facing before the National Bureau of Investigation.
The Consulate also called on Filipinos to not even attempt to bring illegal drugs to Hong Kong because they have stringent procedures of checking luggages.
Several other complainants have stepped forward and implicated Sergio anew in alleged human trafficking activities, after she and live-in partner Julius Lacanilao were placed under arrest after surrendering to the police last April 28.
A day before Veloso's execution in Indonesia, the family of another Filipina claimed Sergio deployed her to Bahrain and haven't heard from her since.
The NBI and the Philippine National Police claimed that Sergio had already admitted that she has been a member of a West African syndicate as early as 2010, but her lawyer from the Public Attorney's Office denied this. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/RSJ, GMA News
