POEA chief warns Pinoy workers vs. direct-hiring schemes
Filipinos eager to work abroad have been warned against direct-hiring schemes advertised online mostly by foreign employers.
Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) particularly gave the warning to Filipinos who want to work abroad as domestic helpers.
Cacdac said Filipinos should be wary of such employment arrangement as it would involve risks.
“They should not fall for this scheme... since they will be given contracts, which will give them a low pay, no rest day, no vacation, and no recruitment agency to be held accountable,” he said in his Facebook account on Monday.
He added that such recruitment is considered illegal and is “a form of human trafficking.”
