Pinoy engineer jailed in Singapore for taking upskirt videos
A Filipino engineer in Singapore has been sentenced to 10 weeks in jail for taking upskirt videos of women, including his colleagues in a high-paying job, in 2014.
A report on the Straits Times said Angelo Salvador Afable Beltran, 45, pleaded guilty to eight of 28 charges of insulting modesty and for the Films Act offense for using his phone to film his victims' inner thighs and underwear at various locations.
Beltran "is absolutely remorseful for his actions,'' his lawyer, Patrick Fernandez, said in the report.
Beltran was arrested after he was spotted by a witness while filming a woman at Jurong East MRT Station on May 22, 2014.
He was taken to the MRT station control, who summoned the police. Subsequent searches revealed similar videos on his phone and 41 other obscene videos at his former residence.
Beltran was also accused of bribing Staff Sergeant Woo Poh Lian with $35,000 in increments after Woo promised to help him avoid being charged.
The bribery was exposed when Beltran complained of his conduct to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, prolonging the Filipino's conviction and earning him a warning from the bureau.
Since the case, Beltran was sacked from his job at Procter & Gamble. His wife and three kids have already returned to the Philippines, the Straits Times report said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
