The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Wednesday opened its first Seafarers Job Fair with 1,500 job offerings at its main office in Mandaluyong City.
At a televised public briefing, DMW Undersecretary Hans Leo Cadcac said DMW Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople ordered the creation of a special job fair for seafarers to establish job facilitation with manning agencies.
“Pinag-utos ni Secretary Ople na talagang magkaroon ng espesyal na job fair para sa ating mga mahal na marino, mga aplikante natin kasi maganda na 'yung proseso ng job facilitation magkaroon tayo nito,” he said.
(Secretary Ople ordered a special job fair for seafarers because it is good to have job facilitation for them.)
According to Cacdac, 25 manning agencies participated in the job fair.
He advised applicants to bring the usual job requirements such as resume, diploma, and relevant certificates.
Cacdac said the deployment of seafarers before the pandemic was around 400,000 to 500,000. According to him, the pre-pandemic record can be reached or exceeded next year.
“Umaasa tayo na makakabawi tayo kahit papaano. Based last year, mga 385,000 to around 397,000 na seafarers natin ang dine-deploy for the entire year,” he said.
(We are hoping that we can recover. Based on last year’s record, we had 385,000 to 397,000 seafarers who were deployed for the entire year.)
“Now, we are on track na higitan po 'yung 2022 [numbers]. Baka lumagpas pa ng (It might even reach) 400,000 this year,” he added.
Cacdac said the operation of trading vessels, container vessels, and cruise ships are now returning to normal as the world recovers from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. —KG, GMA Integrated News
