Marcos names new LTO chief ---- Catherine S. Valente By Catherine S. Valente
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named lawyer Vigor Mendoza 2nd as the new assistant secretary to head the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
The Presidential Communications Office announced the appointment of Mendoza and other government officials in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Mendoza, a former transport official, previously served as congressman representing the 1-UTAK (United Transport Alliance Koalisyon) party-list group.
He had a stint as a former board member of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
Mendoza will replace former LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade, who had announced his resignation due to "differing methods" with the Department of Transportation.
Tugade took over the LTO in November 2022 and faced several issues, including the shortage of plastic cards for driver's licenses and shortage in vehicle license registration plates — which hounded the agency even before his stint as LTO chief.
