107 illegal immigrants from RP detained in Sabah
MANILA, Philippines - Malaysian marine police detained 107 Filipinos apprehended in three boats illegally entering Sabah’s Sandakan district late Tuesday.
The Malaysian Star reported on Wednesday that the Marine Police patrol vessel intercepted the three jongkong or outboard engine-powered longboats with the illegal immigrants from the Philippines on board in the areas of Sungai Pintas.
The crewmen of the three vessels managed to escape by jumping off the waters and swimming into a nearby swamp after realizing they had been spotted by the patrolling marine police.
The illegal immigrants were composed of 40 male adults, 31 female adults, 26 boys and 10 girls.
The report said the group just arrived from the Philippines. The case was referred to the immigration department for further action. - GMANews.TV
