In the wake of continuous protests and accusations hurled against the present government, RP Ambassador to Belgium, Cristina Ortega, said there’s still a lot of reasons to commemorate the EDSA Revolution with fervor.
In a flag raising ceremony held last week, Ortega mentioned in her speech the importance of EDSA in the life of every Filipino.
"We are not commemorating a mere political moment nor are we celebrating the heroes of an episode in our saga as a nation. We are more importantly celebrating the values and the spirituality that form the strongest fibers of our community", she said.
She even accentuated that the Philippines is still a democratic country.
"Our freedoms are still whole -- freedom of speech, freedom of press, we still have all these freedoms in the Philippines", she said in an interview with ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau.
Despite the recent scandals hounding the Arroyo government, Ambassador Ortega remains optimistic that Filipinos will surpass all the confusion citing that justice still prevails in the country.
"I am very confident that we still have a good judicial process and the institution of democracy in justice is still there so the truth will eventually come out", she stated.
She also appealed to Filipinos in Belgium and Luxembourg to critically analyze the situation before making judgements.
"We need to look and scrutinize all sides to discern what is true. We should not be easily making judgements because we are not sure yet what is the truth," she said
