Deployment ban remains
THE BAN on sending workers to Jordan and Lebanon stays, according to the departments of Foreign Affairs and Labor.
"There is still a full deployment ban to Lebanon and a partial ban to Jordan, meaning there should be no new deployment there," Foreign Affairs Spokesman Claro S. Cristobal told BusinessWorld Sunday.
This was confirmed by Labor Secretary Marianito D. Roque in a separate interview.
"There are many reasons why we don’t want to send [workers] to Jordan. There’s the economic situation there and the welfare of our workers. As for Lebanon, we respect the DFA’s (Department of Foreign Affairs) position on the peace and order situation there," he said.
The Department of Labor and Employment said it will honor existing contracts in Lebanon, provided the workers can present proper documentation. - BusinessWorld
