DSWD: 68 rescued from human trafficking in GenSan since Sept '07
MANILA, Philippines - A total of 68 jobseekers were rescued from human trafficking rings in General Santos City in Mindanao from September 2007 to September 2008, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Monday.
Radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported that DSWD General Santos City head Rebecca Magante said the victims rescued were from the city and nearby provinces.
Magante said the rescue stemmed from the efforts of a local inter-agency task force against trafficking in persons.
The report quoted Magante as saying the victims were to take the exit point from the regions by boat, and seek jobs in neighboring countries. - GMANews.TV
