OFW Jaime Ronquillo dies in road accident in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia
An overseas Filipino worker died while three of his relatives were hospitalized following a road mishap in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau reported.
The fatality was identified as Jaime Ronquillo, a mason. His two brothers identified as Artemio and Abelardo and brother-in-law Crispin Junsay were injured in the accident.
ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau correspondent Florante Catanus reported that the accident happened on the night of September 14 along the Aziziyah Road in Al-Khobar.
The four were on their way home from their jobsite on board a Ford pick-up truck driven by Artemio, the eldest of the Ronquillo brothers.
Philippine labor attaché Des Dicang said the embassy is now processing the repatriation of Jaime’s remains.
Dicang, meanwhile, thanked the victims' employer who cooperated with Philippine embassy officials and even promised to shoulder the hospital expenses.
"We are doing every effort to get compensation from social insurance, from the car insurance company. As far as the family of Mr. Jaime is concerned, we will support them for their entire life as much as we possibly can, by whatever we can. We consider them as part of our family because Mr. Jaime was a good man," said their employer, engineer Abul Latif Al-Ghamdi.
Al-Ghamdi also wants to bring Jaime’s wife to Saudi Arabia to personally accept the benefits for her late husband.
Artemio, meanwhile, said the accident was part of the perils of driving motor vehicles.
"Ang mensahe ko lang talagang ganyan aksidente yan eh, sa tagal ko nang pagmamaneho eh ngayon lang nagyari yan," he said.
Junsay, for his part, thanked their sponsor and assured relatives in the Philippines that they are doing well.
