OFFICERS AND STAFF OF THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN TEL AVIV ATTEND A SPECIAL LECTURE ON JEWISH CULTURE, CUSTOMS AND RELIGION
Upon the invitation of the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, Rabbi Moshe Pinchuk of Tzobar Institute in Netanya conducted a special lecture on Jewish culture, belief, customs and traditions at the Chancery on 25 September 2008. The seminar was attended by the officers and staff of the embassy. It focused on explaining the relevance and importance of Jewish High Holidays, such as the Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and Succoth (Feast of Tabernacles).
Rabbi Moshe Pinchuk provided the participants with an overview on how these religious high holidays are celebrated, their intricacies and their connections, by giving excerpts from passages and/or verses from the Bible (Torah).
Philippine Ambassador to Israel Petronila P. Garcia noted that it is important for the personnel of the Embassy to have a deeper understanding of the Jewish faith and culture, not only to bridge any differences, but also to have a better grasp of our common Judeo-Christian traditions.
The Ambassador expressed appreciation to the Rabbi and stated that another special lecture would be conducted in the near future inasmuch as the Jewish culture is rich with traditions unknown to the embassy. DFA News
