502 illegal Pinoy migrants deported from Malaysia since crackdown started January

At least 502 Filipinos were among those deported from Malaysia since authorities there cracked down on illegal immigrants, a Malaysian news site reported Wednesday.
 
Malaysia's The Star Online also quoted Immigration director-general Datuk Aloyah Mamat as saying 48 employers were arrested in the campaign to round up illegal immigrants.
 
The report quoted her as saying that of some 18,775 foreigners checked in 603 integrated operations, 4,640 illegal immigrants were picked up since Jan 21.
 
“A total of 3,978 illegal immigrants arrested have since been deported back to their home countries,” Aloyah added.
 
Of the 4,640, 1,800 were Indonesians, 642 were Myanmar nationals, 508 were Bangladeshis, and 502 were Filipinos.
 
Another 288 were Nepalese, 239 were Indian nationals, 209 were Pakistanis and the remaining 452 were from various countries.  — ELR, GMA News

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. Latest monitoring by the Philippine Navy showed armed ships of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) maintaining a menacing presence around the grounded BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal, Panatag Shoal and Escoda Shoal. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
