Pinoy musicians seek lyrics for soon-to-be-released OFW song

Filipino songwriters and music enthusiasts with a strong admiration for overseas Filipino workers are encouraged to submit lyrics for Google Philippines' "Balikbayan" campaign, a project aiming to reconnect Filipino migrants with their families and friends back home.

Using the hashtag #GoogleMissKoNa on Google+, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, or through a special Google Form, Filipinos here and abroad can share what they miss about the Philippines or their loved ones.

Each submission will amount to a P1 donation to the Blas Ople Policy Center & Training Institute, who will use the funds to create temporary homes for victims of human trafficking.

“Wherever we go, we see how the Filipino spirit comes to life whenever there’s music. The song and the lyrics will hopefully touch their hearts and remind them that wherever they are, we remember them,” Ebe Dancel, former Sugarfree frontman, shared in a statement.

Dancel, Sponge Cola, ItchyWorms, Kjwan, and Filipino-Canadian YouTube star Mikey Bustos will record the crowdsourced lyrics for the song, to be released exclusively on YouTube on September 1.

Ryan Morales, Google Philippines country marketing manager, said the campaign aims to keep Filipino families to "stay connected wherever in the world they may be."

“This is why we thought of creating this song to deliver the fond memories of our overseas Filipinos across the miles through music and technology. We are inviting every Filipino to join in the fun by contributing lyrics to the song," Morales said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
