Ex-OFW arrested over illegal recruitment in Mandaluyong
A former overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia has been arrested in Mandaluyong City for alleged illegal recruitment, a report on "24 Oras" said Thursday.
Rubilyn Redublado, 25, was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group - Anti-Transnational Crime Unit (CIDG-ATCU) in an entrapment operation in a coffeeshop, the report said.
Citing the police, the report said Redublado is facing large-scale illegal recruitment charges filed by 10 complainants.
Her modus operandi was reportedly to ask for P15,000 as initial payment from her victims with a promise of sending them to Canada to work in a five-star hotel.
"Tinanong ko sa kanya kung magkano ang sahod. Ang sabi niya sa akin $300,000 a month. Siyempre iisipin mo dapat bakit ganoon kalaki. Ang aaplayan mo cook?!" the CIDG undercover agent said.
After receiving the money, Redublado will then give the victims fake airplane tickets to deflect suspicion from the transaction and to extract more cash from them.
"Ikaw namang aplikante, you're aiming na makalipad ka," Sr. Supt. Felipe Cazon Jr. of CIDG-ATCU said. "Promise na aalis na sila ngayon, at the same time sinabi na ire-rebook natin kasi 'di matutuloy. And then hihingan na naman ng another P3,000 for rebooking."
Further investigation by the CIDG revealed that Redublado, who is from Javier, Leyte, was also wanted for qualified theft in Region VIII. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
