Young Fil-Am woman stabbed to death in California; ex-boyfriend arrested

A young Filipino-American woman died after sustaining multiple stab wounds inside her house in what is considered as the first recorded homicide in the Californian county of Milpitas in 2015, reports said.

report on Milpitas Patch said Danica Bascos, 20, was found unresponsive in her home last October 5. She later died from the injuries she sustained.

separate report on KRON 4 said Bascos' ex-boyfriend, Kevin Van Nguyen, 26, was arrested by authorities a day after the victim's injured body was found.

Reports said Nguyen was seen lurking outside Bascos' home until her parents left before persuading her to let him inside the residence. He allegedly attempted to coerce her into breaking up with her current boyfriend, John Souza.

The incident reportedly happened after Bascos refused Nguyen's request.

separate Milpitas Patch report said Nguyen confessed to hearing "demon" voices urging him to kill his ex-girlfriend. He also said that he was still "mad" that Bascos lied and cheated on him.

However, he admitted that his purchase of a knife, mask, or gloves three weeks prior to the incident was not influenced by the "demons."

Records state that Nguyen previously assaulted Bascos on September 13. In that incident, Nguyen allegedly pulled Bascos by the arm, took her wallet, keys, and phone, and threatened her while urging her to break up with Souza, whom the suspect punched twice upon arrival.

Bascos' friends opened a GoFundMe page last October 7 for the Filipina's funeral. The page has attracted 162 donors as of Tuesday morning and exceeded its target amount within five days.
