Six Pinays rescued from prostitution in Malaysia

Malaysian authorities have rescued six Filipino women who were illegally recruited for prostitution from Zamboanga in southern Philippines, according to a report on The Star.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm M. Chandra told The Star that the women, aged 20 to 24, were brought separately into Sabah through Sandakan, Semporna, and Tawau after they were promised work as waitresses.
All six women were instead forced to work in "pubs, hotels, and karaoke centers as guest relations officers and to provide sexual services" to pay off debts they accrued to go to Malaysia.
Chandra said the women were under supervision at all times and were escorted immediately home after their shifts.
report on the Malaysian Insight said a Chinese man and two Filipino women aged 25 and 47 were arrested in connection with the crime.
Police will investigate the three under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
The victims remain in a temporary shelter for their protection following the raid. Rie Takumi/KBK/KVD, GMA News
