Consulate in Jeddah helping OFW allegedly raped by agency staff — DFA
The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah is assisting a Filipina domestic helper who was allegedly raped by a representative of her recruitment agency, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
According to the consulate, the suspect is a Saudi national and is already in police custody after he was arrested inside Manila's diplomatic office.
In a report to the Home Office in Manila, Consul General Edgar Badajos said the victim alleged she was raped five times by the suspect.
"The rape allegedly happened after the agency representative took her from the female shelter of the Consulate after assuring the Philippine Overseas Labor Office that she will be transferred to another employer," the DFA said in its statement.
Instead of taking her to the new employer, the suspect took the victim to a hotel where she was allegedly raped, the DFA said.
The victim was able to contact Philippine officials in Jeddah, who came up with a reason for the suspect to bring her back to the consulate, where he was subsequently arrested.
The consulate is assisting the victim in filing a complaint, securing a medico legal endorsement, and collecting the necessary evidence from the hotel management, the DFA said. — BM, GMA News
