101 OFWs who sought shelter in PHL Embassy in Riyadh arriving in Manila
A total of 101 overseas Filipino workers who sought shelter at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will arrive on Monday, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said on Sunday in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.
Bello: Bukas may mga kababayan tayong dadating mula sa Riyadh, sila ay mga runaways at sila nasa 101 ang bilang. https://t.co/Jl7zdrja0g— DZBB Super Radyo (@dzbb) September 21, 2019
Bello said the group includes runaways or those who escaped their employers as well as those whose contracts have already ended but lack the means to travel back home to the Philippines.
"Responsibilidad ng OWWA [Overseas Workers Welfare Administration] na tulungan na silang makauwi," the Labor secretary said.
Meanwhile, Bello said the Department of Labor and Employment has not yet received any report that there were Filipinos hurt or affected by the attacks on oil fields in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier this month, the DOLE said the government is ready to evacuate around 50,000 OFWs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after the recent attacks on the country's oil sites. —KG, GMA News
