2,000 jobs for Pinoy skilled workers to be made available annually in Yukon, Canada

A total of 2,000 jobs for Filipino skilled workers will be available annually in Yukon, Canada, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said.
The job opportunities will open up in various industries, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said in a press release issued Sunday.
Bello said a joint communique he signed with his counterpart in Yukon paved the way for the deployment of Filipino skilled workers who may also bring their families.
The DOLE secretary was in Canada in August.
“The joint communique with Yukon, Canada contains a request for 2,000 skilled workers every year,” Bello said.
The Labor secretary also said Filipinos who are already in Yukon "look very prosperous, very happy. I talked to every single one of them and they were all happy and well taken care of.”
Bello said the Filipinos in Yukon are "well protected, and respected without any class distinction. We heard not a single complaint."
“Yukon is a territory in northwest Canada and we think there are around 20,000 residents or people, of which, 3,000 are Filipinos. So, everywhere you go, you will see and meet Filipinos. They are very welcomed in the community,” he added.
Bello directed Philippine Overseas Employment Administration Administrator Bernard Olalia to fast-track the deployment of workers to Yukon.
He also told Olalia to fast-track the processing of the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) of Filipinos who will work in Vancouver and Toronto.
Salaries for the jobs in Yukon are competitive, ranging from P80,000 to P300,000.
The jobs are mostly for heavy equipment operators, nurses, cooks, chefs, engineers, caregivers, call center agents and others.
Those interested should meet the following qualifications, according to DOLE: fluent in English, holder of a degree related to the job, has had appropriate training, and physically and mentally fit.
“Canadians prefer Filipino workers because of the impression of our quality of work and efficiency. They are also conscious about the family bond, hence, they encourage the workers to bring their family with them in Canada and they will facilitate their entry,” the Labor secretary said.
Bello said he requested his counterparts to sign a bilateral agreement in the Philippines to formalize the deployment to Yukon of overseas Filipino workers. —KG, GMA News
