Parents of jailed OFW in Saudi Arabia appeal for govt help

The parents of an overseas Filipino worker jailed in Saudi Arabia for allegedly killing one of two Indians who reportedly tried to rape him appealed to the government to help in the trial of their son.

Alberto Rosario Datu Sr. and wife Nenita, of Barangay Lagao, General Santos City, told ABS-CBN Regional Network Group that they have already drafted a letter, calling on local officials to help in speeding up the trial of Alberto Datu Jr.

The younger Datu was reportedly jailed for homicide sometime in February this year for stabbing to death one of the two Indians who allegedly tried to rape him in Saudi Arabia.

His parents said he was working as an electrician in one of the firms in Saudi Arabia when he allegedly committed the crime.

"He told me that he doesn't like what the Indians were about to do to him so he grabbed the knife and stabbed them, killing one of the Indians," Datu’s father told ABS-CBN General Santos City.

His parents are afraid that their son’s case was being given due attention by Philippine authorities in the Middle East kingdom. They said their son could be acquitted of the charges if his case was given attention by Philippine officials in Saudi Arabia.

Their appeal comes as they said their son’s income is what supports them in General Santos City.

Datu’s parents said they have also drafted a letter to Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, a native of General Santos City, to help lobby their son’s case to MalacaƱang.ABSCBN News
