US Embassy closed on Monday, Oct. 14, for Columbus Day

The United States Embassy in Manila will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14, in observance of the US holiday Columbus Day.

In an announcement posted Friday on its social media accounts, the embassy said it will reopen for business on Oct. 15, Tuesday.

"The Embassy of the United States in Manila and its affiliated offices will be closed to the public on Monday, October 14, in observance of Columbus Day, an American holiday," it said.

Columbus Day is a US federal holiday. The Columbus Day site said the holiday falls on the second Monday in October.

It seeks to pay tribute to the first journey to America in 1492 by Christopher Columbus.

Earlier, the Philippine Embassy in Washington said it will also be closed on Oct. 14 in observance of the holiday.

The Philippine Embassy in Washington also said it will be closed on Oct. 15 as well in observance of Eid'l Adha, a Philippine holiday. — KBK, GMA News
