Filipinas killed in Cyprus met suspect via online dating site
In a court hearing, it was revealed that the Filipinas who were slain by a suspected serial killer in Cyprus met the suspect through an online dating website.
According to a report by JP Soriano on GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, both victims were overseas Filipino workers.
The suspect who is a 35-year-old Greek Cypriot army officer had confessed to killing seven individuals, including Filipino women.
Two Pinays were found murdered and dumped in a mine shaft at an abandoned mine about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) west of the capital Nicosia.
The first Filipina victim was identified as a 39-year-old woman who was reported missing in May of 2018. She disappeared along with her six-year-old daughter.
The second Filipina victim found Saturday was identified as a 28-year-old woman who had been missing since last year.
The body of another female was recently discovered at a shooting range near the mine but authorities have yet to identify the victim.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Philippine embassy representatives have arrived in Cyprus to meet with authorities on the case and provide assistance to the investigation, including the provision of DNA samples to help in identifying the victims.
The DFA "extends its condolences to the families of the victims, whose identities it cannot mention as of the moment to respect their kin."
"It also stands ready to provide assistance to the victims' families, should it be needed," it added. —Margaret Claire Layug/LDF, GMA News
