NBI nabs OFW wanted for murder in South Korea
VICTIM FOUND IN SEPTIC TANK
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested a Filipino fugitive wanted for the murder of his fellow OFW in South Korea four years ago.
According to Raffy Tima's 24 Oras report on Thursday, Yugoslav Magtoto is facing murder charges for the 2015 killing of Angelo Camen Claveria, whose skeletal remains were found inside a septic tank three years later, in 2018.
According to the NBI, Magtoto was the last person to be seen with the victim before he was reported missing in 2015.
"He (Claveria) was reported missing December of 2015, so that was the last time na nakita 'yung tao. At na-discover 'yung kaniyang skeleton April of 2018 sa loob ng septic tank," Ronald Aguto, chief of the NBI's international operations division.
Magtoto returned to the Philippines in 2016.
He was nabbed in Candaba, Pampanga under a provisional arrest warrant which was issued by a Manila Regional Trial Court at the request of the South Korean police.
The suspect allegedly stole the victim's belongings, including his credit card that was used to withdraw cash.
"Kinuha pa niya ang kaniyang bag, 'yung kanyang phone, 'yung kanyang debit card at winidraw pa 'yung pera ng ating victim to the amount of P47,600 in Korean won," NBI spokesperson Auralyn Pascual said.
It was also discovered that Claveria had allegedly turned down Magtoto's romantic advances.
The South Korean police issued an Interpol Red Notice against the suspect after DNA samples taken from the skeletal remains matched that of Claveria's mother.
"There had been a red notice that was issued, tapos pero hindi naman ganu'n kabilis 'yung proseso ng Pilipinas, that's why there had been a formal request made by the Republic of Korea for a provisional warrant of arrest," Pascual said.
