Department of Foreign Affairs assures justice for OFW who died in Kuwait

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is served in the death of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Ma. Constancia Lago Dayag in Kuwait.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. tweeted yesterday that they have secured the consent of Dayag’s family so that the University of the Philippines pathology and National Bureau Investigation could  perform autopsy on her remains and determine the cause of her death.
Dayag was pronounced dead on arrival at Al-Sabah Hospital in Kuwait. She had contusions and hematoma in various parts of her body.
“We leave no stone unturned,” Locsin tweeted.
DFA will continue to provide Assistance To Nationals and legal support on the case of Dayag, Locsin assured.
The remains of Dayag, a household service worker, were scheduled to arrive yesterday, (23 May 2019).
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has requested for the immediate release of the official forensic report from the Criminal Evidence Department of Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior.  
Dayag’s death certificate released by the Al-Sabah Hospital indicated that the cause of her death is still under investigation.
The DFA said once the Kuwaiti report is released, they will double-check it with the Philippine experts.
Officials of the DFA and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait vowed to continue to work with the Kuwait government for the speedy resolution of the felony murder case earlier filed by the Kuwaiti General Prosecutor’s Office and supported by the embassy.

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
