China discovers ‘coronaravirus’ as pneumonia outbreaks spread across the country
BEIJING, CHINA – Chinese researchers claimed that they have identified a new strain of coronavirus that caused a recent pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan City, a central province in China.
They successfully obtained the genetic sequencing from a sample from one patient and validated the others affected in the said city.
Coronavirus can cause abdominal and respiratory systems. The virus is spread through coughing, sneezing, or having physical contact with an infected person. It can also lead to a more severe virus such as SARS and MERS.
In 2002-2003, at least 8,000 people were affected by the virus wherein 774 deaths were recorded due to the pandemic SARS virus that spread on 37 countries across Asia.
The Coronavirus, which was also known as Middle East Respiratory System (MERS) killed 851 people all over the world.
The next step in the research will be looking into the virus etiology and clinical symptoms for more details, said medical experts.
