Two Pinay trafficking victims in Iraq to return home Friday —DFA
Two Filipinas who were trafficked into Iraq are expected to arrive in the Philippines on Friday, as the government continues to repatriate Filipinos in the Middle East amid tension between the United States and Iran.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs said the two Filipinas were due to arrive in the afternoon at the NAIA Terminal 3.
"The DFA will be receiving the two repatriates, both females and victims of human trafficking in Iraq. The two left Baghdad yesterday evening local time," the statement read.
Due to the security threats in the Middle East, Alert Level 4 was raised on January 8, triggering a mandatory repatriation.
On January 3, Tehran’s elite Quds Force commander and architect of its growing military influence in the Middle East, Qassem Soleimani, was killed in a US airstrike in Baghdad. Iran on January 8 struck back firing rockets at Iraq's bases, where US forces were located.
On the same day, at least 176 passengers were killed when Iran mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian plane while on alert after its missile strikes on US targets in Iraq. — Jamil Santos/MDM, GMA News
