DFA announces hotlines for 'sexploitation' complaints

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday announced hotlines where overseas Filipino workers can report incidents of "sexploitation." DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez announced the  hotlines  — mobile, landline, and email — on his Twitter account Thursday afternoon. Ex-Saudi OFW bares 'sexploitation' ordeal, ready to come out to shed light on issue

A former overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia may shed more light on the alleged "sexploitation" of overseas Filipino workers in some Philippine embassies and consulates by coming out with her tale.   The former OFW said her ordeal, where the driver of a labor attache allegedly tried to molest her, occurred June 2 last year at a shelter for distressed OFWs in Saudi Arabia.   "Walang problema sa akin kung 'yan makakapaglaya sa kasamahan ko doon para hindi mahirapan," she said in an interview on dzBB radio Thursday afternoon, when asked if she is willing to come out and tell authorities about her ordeal.   "Nakakaawa ang sitwasyon ng katulong doon," added the former OFW who was given the false name "Josie" in the interview.   "Josie" said she had escaped from her abusive employer and went to the shelter for distressed OFWs.   At the time, she said she was already warned by other OFWs to be wary of th...

Akbayan's Bello wants independent body to probe alleged 'sexploitation' of OFWs

A party-list lawmaker on Friday asked Malacañang to form an independent body to probe the alleged sexual exploitation of Filipino workers in some Philippine embassies and consulates particularly in the Middle East. In an interview with reporters at the Supreme Court, Akbayan party-list Rep. Walden Bello said some witnesses might refuse to speak about the controversy because they did not trust some officials at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), which is currently probing the incident. Asked who should make up the independent body, Bello said: "We will leave it up to the executive department to do that."
