Asian tourist dies in fall while taking photos at Grand Canyon

The tourist, believed to be in his 50s, was taking photos during a mid-morning stop at the Eagle Point overlook on land owned by the Hualapai tribe when he slipped and fell, said David Leibowitz, spokesman for Grand Canyon West, a company that operates attractions in the area. He is presumed dead and rescuers were trying to recover the body late on Thursday afternoon, Leibowitz said. The tourist’s name was not immediately released. The man was part of a tour group visiting Grand Canyon West, a popular area that includes the horseshoe-shaped, glass Skywalk that juts out from the canyon wall and offers a look into the canyon some 4,000 feet below. Man who killed Pinay, 6 others in Oikos University shooting dies in prison

ABS-CBN News Posted at  Mar 29 2019 01:51 PM The man who was serving seven consecutive life sentences in prison for killing seven people, including Filipina Kathleen Ping, has died inside the California State Prison in Sacramento. A state correctional officer announced Wednesday that 50-year-old One Goh died on March 28. His cause of death has not been released. On April 2, 2012, Goh unleashed a barrage of gunshots inside the Oikos University in Oakland, fatality shooting 24-year-old Ping, a receptionist, and six students. Memorial held for Pinay slain in Oakland shooting Authorities said Goh was furious at school administrators for expelling him and refusing to refund his tuition. In 2015, a Superior Court judge wrote that  Goh  suffered from schizophrenia, severe depression and a delusional disorder, and was mentally unfit to stand trial. Pinoy sentenced 2-year jail term for exploiting fellow Pinoys in Canada

Published  March 28, 2019 11:25am  A Filipino businessman will face two years in jail after being convicted of exploiting fellow Filipino foreign workers in Canada. Hector Mantolino, who owns several cleaning and maintenance companies, used Canadian government’s Temporary Foreign Workers Program to take advantage of the 28 workers he had brought in from the Philippines, the  CBC News reported . According to a statement, Mantolino paid these workers at least $500,000 less than their total reported wages. Mantolino allegedly advised his workers to lie about their salaries and threatened them of losing their job in Canada if they do otherwise. Some of the workers said they had stated they would receive a Canadian wage but were paid only $3.13 per hour after various deductions. Judge Glen McDougall handed his decision against Mantolino over several factors including "the length of time the non-payment scheme was in place, the amount of effort by Mantolino

The tiny sultanate will implement the harsh new penal code -- which also prescribes amputation of a hand and foot for theft -- next Wednesday. Homosexuality is already illegal in Brunei but it will now become a capital offence. To the untrained eye, Fil-Am Lola June looks like any other toddler playing with paper and paint. But to New York City’s art community, she is known as the pint-sized Picasso. The expressionist been featured in local media. Her recent solo art exhibition sold 30 of the 40 artworks she recently created. Mixed media artist Pajtim Osmonaj, the show’s curator, discovered the young Fil-Am’s talent in her own living room. While visiting mom Lucille Javier, Osmanaj saw something special in Lola June’s scribbles. “That made me to think ‘Oh, I wanna see more of her work, how she can express herself with better materials,” he said.
