DFA: 7 Pinoy seafarers acquitted in oil smuggling case now en route to PHL


The seven Filipino seafarers who have been acquitted over an oil smuggling case are now en route to the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday.
In an advisory, the DFA said the seven Filipino seafarers of MT Levante left Tripoli, Libya with Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers Affairs Abdullah Mamao.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. has expressed gratitude to Libyan authorities for ordering the release of the Filipino seafarers.
The seven sailors detained in Libya since 2017 were identified as Arthur Soria Taleno, master; Fulgencio Pederito Eulogio, first officer; Claro Camintay Allera, second officer; Abraham Senara Naduma, Jr., third officer; Ronnie Lumales Moniya, chief engineer; Gil Dellupac Cruzada, second engineer; and Aldwin Salang-oy Emperada, third engineer.
They were investigated and detained for alleged economic sabotage because they were accused of smuggling six million liters of fuel. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
