Anger grows in Italy as bridge collapse death toll soars to 39

Pinoys in Egypt told to be vigilant amid suicide bombing attempt

Published  August 13, 2018 7:45am  Filipinos in Egypt should "exercise caution" after authorities there foiled a recent suicide bombing attack, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in an advisory. The DFA noted that the suicide bombing attempt occurred near the site of a petrochemical plant where almost 1,000 Filipinos are working as construction workers. "We have just been informed by the Philippine Embassy in Cairo that all the Filipinos working in the plant are safe and that the only casualty in the incident that took place past noon on Saturday was the alleged suicide bomber," the DFA said. According to Ambassador to Cairo Leslie Baja, the target of the attack appeared to be a Coptic church in Shoubra in Qalyubia Governorate, about 100 kilometers from the Egyptian capital, where the country’s largest petrochemical plant is being constructed. Pinoy family trapped inside Las Vegas store during shooting incident

Published  August 14, 2018 11:03am  A Filipino family was among those trapped inside a shopping center in Las Vegas after one of the establishment's security guards opened fire over the weekend, a report on Unang Balita said Tuesday. Video courtesy of Ryan Alegre shows members of the family hiding under clothes during the incident. Authorities said the security guard opened fire following a disagreement with the shopping center's manager. Responding policemen were able to shoot the suspect who was rushed to a hospital for observation. No other persons were hurt in the incident. — KBK, GMA News

DOLE officials ignore PACC sub-poenas
