139 Pinoy deportees from Malaysia arrive in Jolo
MANILA, Philippines - One hundred thirty-nine Filipino deportees from Sabah, Malaysia, who were allegedly living illegally in that country arrived in Jolo, Sulu, on Saturday.
According to GMA-7’s Flash Report, the deportees were fetched by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) officials and various volunteer groups.
From the Jolo pier, the Filipinos were escorted to the DWSD office for a quick medical checkup.
GMA News reporter Tina Panganiban-Perez said that 61 of them would be brought to Zamboanga, 29 to Jolo and 49 to Tawi-Tawi.
The Philippines and Malaysia recently agreed to formulate a new agreement to address the continuing illegal entry of Filipinos seeking work in Malaysia.
The agreement was signed following Malaysia’s renewed crackdown on illegal aliens in Sabah, which has resulted in the deportation of hundreds of Filipinos.
