Dubai denies leaving Pinoy workers sleeping on the ground

MANILA, Philippines - The Dubai government belied reports that the 40 Filipinos that were hired to work as drivers were not accommodated when they reached the emirate recently, according to Khaleej Times.

Khaleej on Monday quoted Essa Al Dossari, chief executive officer of Dubai’s Public Transport Agency, as saying that though it wasn’t the responsibility of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to provide lodging for the Filipinos, the workers’ accommodation was nevertheless arranged by authorities in Al Quoz, a locality in Western Dubai.

It was reported earlier that the Filipinos had to sleep on the ground because they were not provided accommodation upon their arrival in Dubai.

The RTA is looking for 4,000 more overseas drivers, according to Khaleej. It said the agency would start hiring the drivers either this month or in October. - GMANews.TV
