Report identifies Pinoy in Dubai helicopter crash

MANILA, Philippines - The Filipino victim in the September 3 helicopter crash in Dubai was identified by Gulf News as Diosdado Buhangin.

In a news report on Monday, Gulf News said the information came from Valeriano Benito, Philippine consul general to Dubai.

The report likewise identified 38-year-old Julius D. Pereira as one of the seven passengers of the helicopter who died in the incident. The report did not mention Pereira's nationality.

Gulf News said it was able to talk to the victim’s brother, Peter, from Pune India who reportedly said that Julius worked as a “material coordinator" for the last couple of years, and was just a week away from celebrating his birthday when the incident happened.

Julius was on board Aerogulf 212 when it crashed 40 miles off Dubai last Wednesday. The carrier was supposed to transport workers to a jackup rig operated by Petrofac Ltd, an oilfield service provider working on behalf of Dubai Petroleum Company.

Gulf News said that according to a senior Dubai police official, operations had resumed at the oil rig that was struck by the helicopter.

The report quoted Peter as saying that his family expected to get more details about the death of Julius. He, however, said that he was reluctant to pass the phone to Julius’ wife, for a media interview because “she is devastated."

Peter said Julius had only been married for a year-and-a-half. - GMANews.TV
