For sake of Pinoys in Sabah, VP Binay calls for sobriety amid standoff
Expressing concern for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Sabah amid a standoff between Malaysian authorities and a group of armed Filipinos there, Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday called for sobriety on the situation.
In a post on his Facebook account, Binay appealed to the public not to second-guess President Benigno Aquino III's moves to address the situation.
“The President should be allowed to make decisions without pressure from personalities or groups. He will decide based on what is best for the national interest and the safety of Filipinos in Sabah,” he said.
He noted that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is exhausting diplomatic options to arrive at a peaceful resolution of the Sabah controversy.
Binay, who is also the presidential adviser on OFW concerns, described the Sabah situation as “delicate,” and requiring sobriety.
He said this is "a very delicate issue that needs to be handled with sobriety."
"We are very much concerned about the safety of Filipinos in Sabah, primarily our OFWs there,” he said. - VVP, GMA News
