UAE guard gets one year in jail for molesting Pinay in waiting room
A United Arab Emirates (UAE) court has sentenced a Bangladeshi security guard to a year in jail for locking a Filipina housemaid in a waiting room and molesting her there.
The defendant, 30, was accused of confining the Filipina in a high-rise tower flat after convincing her to wait for a taxi on the 27th floor.
Dubai Court of First Instance Presiding Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi said the defendant will be deported after his punishment, the news site Gulf News said .
The judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
While the guard denied the allegations, the Filipina testified that he told her to wait for the taxi in a hall that he described as a "waiting hall," then abused her.
She said the incident happened when she asked the suspect how she could find a taxi during Ramadan.
The Filipina said she trusted that the defendant would not hurt her as he was a security guard.
The victim said the guard "grabbed me from my shoulder and pushed me down to the sofa. He partly removed my T-shirt from the shoulder side and peeped at my bra. Then he removed it again and exposed my underwear."
Upon learning about the incident, the Filipina's sponsor reported the matter to the police. - VVP, GMA News
