Fil-Ams outraged, call for fair probe of Pinay's killing by US cops
Filipino-American community groups over the weekend expressed outrage over the fatal shooting of a Filipina-American at a wholesale store in Virginia on Wednesday.
The National Federation of Filipino-American Associations: Filam Community also joined calls for an impartial probe of the incident, the Philippine Embassy in Washington said.
"We join Philippine Ambassador Jose Cuisia Jr. in calling for a thorough, impartial and expeditious investigation of the incident," the embassy, in a post on its Twitter account early Saturday Manila time, quoted the group's national chairman Eduardo Navarra as saying ().
Navarra also extended its "profound sympathy" to the family of Mylene De Leon Scott, 38, "over the untimely and tragic death of their loved one."
"We are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers as they grieve over this most painful loss," he said.
Navarra also said they were "shocked and deeply saddened" by the death of Scott.
Earlier, the Philippine Embassy called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the fatal shooting by police of de Leon-Scott.
Authorities initially said de Leon-Scott was shot dead by police officers responding to a reported disturbance inside the Costco Wholesale Store in Sterling.
“We request authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial and expeditious investigation of the incident,” Cuisia said, adding the Embassy “shares the concerns expressed by Ms. Scott's family in the Philippines and the members of the Filipino-American Community that law enforcement officials may have responded with disproportionate force.” - VVP, GMA News
