POEA opens bigger OEC processing center in Manila mall

Returning overseas Filipino workers can now avail of better and bigger facilities at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration's newest processing center in Manila.

The Department of Labor and Employment said the new overseas employment certificate (OEC) processing center in SM Manila can accommodate more OEC applications.

“It also saves them money and time, considering that may OFWs are here only on a short vacation. Time saved by them on processing personal employment documents is time freed for them to spend with their loved ones,” DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said.

She added the POEA had been trying since August 2012 to process and issue OECs at the SM Manila’s Global Pinoy Center. She thanked SM Manila management for accommodating the DOLE facility.

The DOLE said the new site was constructed and refurnished by SM Manila management.

"It is provided with 10 counters, computers, chairs, waiting area for at least 100 persons, internet connection, and other furniture, all free of charge," the DOLE added.

Since the OEC processing center started opereations, it issued OECs to more than 16,000 OFWs or balik-manggagawa.

Other OEC processing centers in malls include those in SM Pampanga, Duty Free Philippines, and Trinoma Mall, Quezon City.

"More than 70,000 OFWs have been served by these processing centers," the DOLE said.

Meanwhile, the DOLE said the OEC processing in SM Pampanga will soon have a bigger site, with construction starting in January 2014.  — ELR, GMA News
