2 Pinoys killed in accident while helping clear road in Australia

Two Filipinos who were helping clear a road of a fallen tree in Australia last Friday night were killed when a car slammed into them, reports said.

The reports did not identify the victims, but a report on The Standard described them as “farm workers” who were “in their 30s.”

The Standard report said the two were killed instantly when they were hit by a Ford sedan that was carrying six people, including children.

The report said the incident occurred on Heywood-Woolsthorpe Road near Drunmore Lane in Broadwater, a district in the Australian state of Queensland.

Citing Sergeant Callum McKinnon of Warrnambool police, The Standard said the two fatalities were traveling east in a Toyota ute when they came across the large cypress tree blocking the road.

A passenger, a 58-year-old man, was also killed, it said.

Citing police investigators, a report on Newcastle Herald said the two Filipinos and another man were attempting to remove a large tree that had fallen across the road when the incident happened.

It said the weather was “wet and windy” at the time of the accident.

The driver of the car was taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital with minor injuries. —KBK, GMA News
