DFA to look into cases of 2 abused Pinays in Saudi Arabia
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it will look into the cases of two Filipina household service workers seeking to return to the Philippines after being allegedly abused by their employers in Saudi Arabia.
A report on Arab News said DFA Undersecretary Rafael Seguis emailed it to say he will hold further investigations into the cases of the two.
Citing the email, the report said Seguis would request officials at the Philippine Embassy and the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA) to speed up the processing of these cases.
The report said the two HSWs fled from their employers allegedly due to abuse during work. One of them said her employer had not paid her for five months.
Both have been staying at the Bahay Kalinga (BK) in Riyadh. One had been staying for seven months while the other has been there for two months.
Also, the Arab News report said one of the two HSWs had been receiving a SR1,000 monthly salary, less than the standard salary agreed for HSWs.
The other OFW was asked by her employer to repay the SR20,000 spent to recruit her before she could be given an exit visa. She does not have the money to pay this. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
