US Embassy closed on Tuesday, Veterans' Day

The United States Embassy in Manila will be closed on Nov. 11, Tuesday, in observance of Veterans Day, a holiday in the US.

The embassy and its affiliated offices will be closed to the public on Tuesday and will resume services on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

"Veterans Day is celebrated every year in the United States on November 11, which is the day that major hostilities of World War I formally ended with the signing of the Armistice at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918," the US Embassy said in a statement.

The US Department of Veterans Affairs said Veterans Day is "celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good."

United States Ambassador to Manila Philip Goldberg will lead on Tuesday rites honoring Filipino and American war veterans on the occasion of Veterans Day.

The US Embassy in Manila said Filipino and American community members will attend the ceremony at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Taguig City.

A news release from the embassy said veterans of both nations will also take part in the event, along with representatives from the US Embassy, the Philippine government, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, including chief of staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr.
